DETROIT — MOCAD- Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit will be hosting TOM House: The Work and Life of Tom of Finland starting Thursday, April 19, with a benefit reception on Sunday, April 22.
The reception is being hosted by Equality Michigan and the Tom of Finland Foundation. All proceeds from the opening will be in memory of local activist Jeff Montgomery.
“Jeff was a fierce advocate for the LGBTQ community and one who embraced a sex-positive attitude that was clearly evident to all who knew him,” said EQMI development director Patrick Brewis. “That’s why this event was a no-brainer.”
Brewis said all funds raised will go to advocate for LGBTQ Michiganders. Michigan still doesn’t have a law to protect LGBTQ residents from discrimination in housing or employment.
There will be a Q & A session with Tom of Finland Foundation President Durk Dehner and Vice President Sharp.
The exhibition is sponsored by MOCAD, Mike Kelley Foundation for the Arts, and Graeme Flegenheimer.
