Report from Kalamazoo Pride

KALAMAZOO, MI – This past weekend was the 2015 Kalamazoo Pride Festival. Each year Kalamazoo puts on two days of shopping, entertainment, & community.

This years event featured boots from a number of LGBTQIA supportive organizations such as Cares Kalamazoo, Bell’s Brewery, West Side Screen Printing, Mr. Friendly, PNC Bank, Kellogg’s, Kalamazoo Valley College, The Dunes Resort, Equality Michigan, & many more. A number of churches came out in support of Kalamazoo Pride this year as well. In attendance were the First Congregational Church United Church of Christ, St. Martin of Tours Episcopal Church, First United Methodist Church of Kalamazoo, Lutheran Church of the Savior, Portage Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, & Unitarian Universalist Community Church.

The entertainment for the weekends events was provided by DJ Matt House, Lourdes Ashley Hunter, Brody Ray, Crystal Bowersox, Bianca Del Rio, & Luciana. Other entertainment came in the form of the MISS(TER) Kalamazoo Pride Contest.

On site CARES Kalamazoo provided free HIV Testing using the newer one minute test, allowing for quick & accurate testing.

Through both the rain & the sweltering heat and humidity, those in attendance at this years Kalamazoo Pride event were provided quality entertainment and education and everyone seemed to have a fantastic time. Everyone had a smile on their faces and Mr. Friendly & rainbow themed apparel seemed to be the choice of the day.

For anyone with the oppertunity next year to attend the Kalamazoo Pride Festival, I would highly recommend doing so. It truly is a community event where one can go, be yourself, & enjoy time with other like minded people.
