DES MOINES — One Iowa, the state’s leading lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer/questioning (LGBTQ) advocacy organization, will hold an equality rally on the Capital City Pride main stage in Des Moines’ East Village on Sunday, June 11 at 1:45 p.m. following the Capital City Pride parade. LGBTQ Iowa leaders will speak at the rally in solidarity with the Equality March for Unity Pride nationally.
Rally speakers include:
- Chris Schwartz, Black Hawk County supervisor
- Stormy O’Brink, Transformative Healing mobile advocacy specialist
- Norio Umezu, Networking Project coordinator at Monsoon United Asian Women of Iowa
- Sophia Stone, Transformations Iowa president
- Nate Monson, Iowa Safe Schools executive director
- Tink Harvey, Des Moines Pride Center president and former Ms. Iowa Leather
- Matt McCoy, first openly gay member of the Iowa Legislature
- Bryan Smith, owner of The Blazing Saddle
- Daniel Hoffman-Zinnel, One Iowa executive director
“Thousands of LGBTQ people and allies nationwide are gathering this Sunday to take a stand for LGBTQ rights,” One Iowa Executive Director Daniel Hoffman-Zinnel said. “We are proud to stand with them and raise our voices for equality. Pride is a time to honor the origins of the LGBTQ rights movement, be visible, and look toward the future. We will do all three at this rally.”
