DES MOINES — One Iowa Action, an affiliated advocacy arm of One Iowa, announced details for its first Speakers Bureau trainings on its new website (oneiowaaction.org) Thursday morning. The site also includes the organization’s legislative priorities, upcoming details for other events, ways for LGBTQ Iowans and allies to engage with the organization and the Iowa Legislature, and a blog that will be updated with content from One Iowa Action staff and guest writers.
“We are excited to launch this new platform to share information about LGBTQ issues with Iowans before session starts in January,” One Iowa Action Executive Director Daniel Hoffman-Zinnel said. “The site provides another channel for LGBTQ Iowans and allies to fight for our rights and prepare for LGBTQ Day on the Hill on Jan. 30.”
The organization’s Speakers Bureau trainings will equip LGBTQ Iowans and allies with the skills to speak publicly on LGBTQ issues and share their stories with legislators, friends, family, and neighbors in impactful ways.
“It is crucial for legislators to hear from LGBTQ Iowans, and transgender Iowans in particular,” Hoffman-Zinnel said. “According to a 2015 survey comparison, Americans are more likely to report seeing a ghost than knowing a transgender person. Speakers Bureau members will personalize LGBTQ issues and show legislators that their actions impact real people in our state.”
