North American Bear Weekend sets record attendance

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky Bourbon Bears hosted their sixth North American Bear Weekend, February 18-21 at the historic Campbell House hotel in Lexington, KY. This year’s theme was Bearicon 2016, with a record-setting 698 attendees showing off their best Super Hero/Villain and Sci-Fi/Fantasy gear. Apart from being a weekend full of fun, North American Weekend is a fundraiser for the Kentucky Bourbon Bear’s charity of choice, Moveable Feast Lexington. To date, the Kentucky Bourbon Bear has raised nearly $20,000 for Moveable Feast Lexington.

In addition to a vendor market full of booth catering to the bear community, the weekend featured pool parties, a DC vs Marvel dance party, cuddle parties, speed dating with the Derby City Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, cocktail parties sponsored by a variety of bear run events, bearded beauties drag show, and a bourbon tasting.

The highlight of the weekend was the Mr. North American Bear Contest, held on Saturday evening. Ten contestants competed for the title by showing off their best Theme Wear (Super Hero, Sci-Fi, or Fantasy character), Title Wear, Bar Wear, and Fantasy Wear. Contestants are also asked to sell raffle tickets for raise money for Moveable Feast Lexington. Raymond Smith from Louisville, KY was named this year’s Mr. North American Bear. In addition to the title, Mr. North American Bear, the following titles were awarded:

Mr. North American Bear Hunter – Terron Cooper

Mr. North American Daddy Bear – John Riniker

Mr. North American Bear Cub – Raven Driscoll

Mr. North American Muscle Bear- Jack Lundy
