COLUMBUS – At a time when many of us are celebrating the legalization of Gay Marriage across the nation, the NLA-International and its Chapters are mourning the loss of one of our own.

Owen E. was a member of our NLA Columbus Ohio Chapter founded in 1992. His service as an Officer and Board member of the International was well in excess of a decade, a great symbol of his dedication. His focus and energy on his home Chapter and community were something he was very proud of. Owen served as Treasurer and Membership Chair for NLA-International through more than three Presidents. His service as a Chapter Rep for his Chapter was even longer. Owen was the recipient of our 2004 and 2005 Man of the year Award (now named Steve Maidhof Award).

On a personal note, his spirit was always strong when times were tough for the NLA. Many Presidents valued his council and advice during their time in Office. He was always a call away, and was vocal on even the most sensitive issues when the Officers and Board were struggling to make the right decisions for its membership. He was charming, and at the right moments when we all needed it he was playful and brought us smiles. Serving as a role model for Leathermen, Owen was honorable, fair, just and deeply dedicated to the causes that affected us all.

Owen is remembered by family, his Chapter and the entire NLA-International. We wish him well on his journey and look to the stars for his bright spirit to light our night sky.
