New Year, New Exhibits, New Benefits at LA&M

The LA&M Guest Artist Gallery Welcomes Philip Hitchcock January 27 7:00 PM Challenging. Alluring. Rock Hard. The life-size male erotic figures of Philip Hitchcock merge fantasy and reality to create powerful sculptural forms, evoking themes of heroism and human frailty. Focusing on ancient mythology from different cultures, Hitchcock creates contemporary representations of iconic deities whose grandeur is humanized by their corporeal sensuality. The hyper-realistic forms, which are created from multiple castings of live models, are layered and embellished with accoutrements.

Nearly a dozen of Hitchcock sculptures are on view at Chicago’s Leather Archives and Museum from January 27, through June 30, 2012. Also on view are ten limited edition photographs of select works by Hitchcock, plates taken from his book, Dark Impressions, The Art of Philip Hitchcock. The artist is on hand to sign copies of his book at a free public reception at The LA &M on Friday, January 27, from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m.

Leather Arhives & Museum Guided Tours 2012 For those visitors who have gone through the museum and wondered why they were called The Lure Angels or who Steve Masters was, LA&M’s first guided tour led by Chester Munro was a great success, and he thanks everyone who came out in the frigid temperatures to join him. The next tour, led by Jack Rinella, promises to be even more revealing.

For more than fourteen years Jack Rinella has been writing LeatherViews a weekly, column about his favorite topic. A sought-after lecturer, Jack has presented seminars on alternate lifestyle history, techniques, and relationships across the country. Born in Albany, New York, he has been active in the Leather scene since 1983, is a founding member of MAsT-Chicago, an associate member of the Chicago Hellfire Club, and serves as a director on the board of the Leather Leadership Conference. He lives on the North side of Chicago where he passes the time writing, cruising, and falling in love whenever he can.

Jack’s tour will be held on: Saturday, February 4, 2012 2:00 PM with author and historian Jack Rinella. As part of his guided tour, Mr. Rinella will also be offering a reading from his latest book, The Dionysian Alliance. For non-members, admission to these tours is $10 with no discounts available. Members of the museum will receive free admission.

New Discount Announced The Leather Archives & Museum is proud to announce that beginning this year, we will be offering a 50% discount to veterans and active duty members of the United States Armed Forces.
In light of the recent repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, as well as honoring service member Copy Berg, a pioneer in challenging the ban on homosexuals in the military (our lobby is dedicated to his memory), we here at the Archives felt that the time had come to offer this to our visitors who have served or currently serve our country.
