New Portal Series: Orientation to the BDSM Community and Bloomington Kink

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – So I’ve been rolling this idea around in my head for awhile and am finally ready to start taking measures to put it into action. I’m going to start an alternate workshop series that will focus on more 101 topics. The series will be recurring (several times a year) and for the most part cover introductory material over and over again, with slight twists. The frequency will be entirely based on influx of new members, and not on calendar periods, so that new members will get oriented to the community when they most need it.

I’d like to have the first one next month, perhaps the evening of the 19th (Friday) or the afternoon on the 20th. TwistedMath and ThornyTruth have already offered the use of their house. I also want this to be an opportunity for experienced members of the community who occupy different niches (dom/me, sub, sadomasochist, ?, male, female, other) to act in an official educational capacity. To that end I want to structure this as a panel discussion with about four panel members, each briefly taking on one introductory topic or perhaps presenting overall general material from their perspective. Then the floor will be opened for additional comments and questions from the other participants. Part of the reason I want this to be a panel is so that experienced members can be identified to new people and recognized as respected sources of advice/guidance. Each workshop will have a different mix of panelists so that over time, many different perspectives and types of experience can be represented.

These events should not compete with regular workshops (or other community events), but will compliment them. So, questions? Comments? I’d like to take nominations on panel members as well as get a read on general enthusiasm for the idea.
