ST. LOUIS – The 30th Mr Missouri Leather Contest was held this past weekend, March 1-3, 2013. Events were held at JJ’s Clubhouse. John Metzner will represent the state at IML in May.
The weekend kicked off with a “Meet and Greet” on Friday night for the contestants, judges and MML 2012 Scott O’Brien. Along with the annual Mr Missouri Leather Silent Auction presented by Gateway MC and a used leather sale presented by Blue Max rounded out the evenings. Proceeds from the silent auction and Blue Max’s used leather sale will benefit area AIDS service organizations.
Saturday afternoon the contestants met at JJ’s for their interviews then continued at Saturday evening with the Mr. Missouri Leather 2013 Contest. The contestants were judged on cruise wear, physique and personality and formal wear as well as deliver a short speech to the crowd. The silent auction and used leather sale will continue throughout the evening with final bids for the auction tallied at the contest conclusion.
Highlights of Saturday evening included the entertaining MC’s Mike Lunter, Mr. Missouri Leather 2009, and Terry Laupp, Mr. Missouri Leather 2010. Terry was also the Producer of the evening. As the evening began, Collin Wood, Mr. Midwest Rubber 2012, offered up a toast to Jason Lynch “RubberJason,” Mr International Rubber 16, whose recent passing reminded us all to make the best of the time we have. After the toast, the evening kicked off with the introduction of the two contestants – Andy Struckhoff and John Metzner.
It was a heated competition and the judges – Tarna Scyanne, International Ms. Bootblack 2012; Collin Wood, Mr. Midwest Rubber 2012; David Rhodes, Publisher and Editor of The Leather Journal; Sir Robb Lappe, Central Plains Leather Sir 2012; and Scott O’Brien, Mr. Missouri Leather 2012, had their work cut out for them. But at the end of the night, John Metzner ended up with the new Mr Missouri Leather sash with Andy Struckhoff a close runner-up. The newly sashed Mr. Missouri Leather 2013 received a sponsorship to IML 2013, $100, a title sash and much more. Second place received $100.
Those involved with the Mr Missouri Leather 2013 Contest want to thank everyone for their hard work, participation and attendance and look forward to seeing everyone next year.
