Mr. International Rubber Travel Fund renamed the Sly Hands Travel Fund

CHICAGO — As part of the ceremonies opening the 21st Mr. International Rubber (MIR) contest, Chief Operating Officer William “Rubberwilli” Schendel announced that the executive committee of the organization was renaming the winners travel fund to honor Si “Sly” Hands, Mr. International Rubber 2012. The renamed fund will be known as the “Sly Hands Travel Fund”, and will be funded through the parent organization – MIR Contest LLC, as well as through private gifts.

Hands, a resident of Manchester, UK was an avid professional and leisure traveler. He spent much of his youth as a counselor at summer camps in New England, and in his later life he traveled the world as a noted photographer. During his year as Mr. International Rubber he took on significant personal debt to represent the title at events around the globe. Following that year the MIR organization began concerted efforts to raise additional funds to assist the reigning titleholder in covering some of their travel expenses throughout their year.

In discussions with Alex Baines, partner of the late Hands, renaming of the travel find seemed to be a fitting choice. Said Baines, “Si LOVED travelling and meeting people and always thought that was one of the most important parts of having the title – getting out there and being seen and introducing new people. Building that community across the world.”

With this renaming the organization hopes that MIR attendees, admirers, contestants and titleholders will learn about Sly Hands and his multi-faceted legacy, all while creating a solid foundation for future generations of MIR titleholders to travel the world, building a stronger global fetish community and representing the title of Mr. International Rubber for many years to come.

Si “Sly” Hands was born October 13, 1983, and passed unexpectedly on June 19, 2017 in Manchester. The 21st Mr. International Rubber Contest, being held this weekend in Chicago, is the first to be held since his passing. In 2016, Hands made his debut as the co-host of the contest weekend. He was the founder of the Manchester Rubbermen and a noted commercial photographer in Europe and North America under the moniker “Sly Hand, Fetish Photographer.” He was the 15th man to hold the title of Mr. International Rubber, having won the contest in November of 2011.
