ST. LOUIS – Midwest Leather took place the first weekend of October and so much fun was had by all.
The Midwest Leather weekend is made up of classes, social events and both the Midwest Puppy Contest and the Mr Midwest Leather Contest. The weekend was well attended by guests from all over the 13 states the contests cover and beyond with the majority of the events at the Bad Dog Bar & Grill and Club St Louis.
Friday started off with the Meet & Greet and the contestant number draw. The evening was very social with friends getting to see each other and lots of new friendships being forged.
Saturday morning/afternoon the contestants had their interviews while everyone else enjoyed classes at the Bad Dog including Puppy 101 and 201, Rope Play and Hot Wax Play. There was a few hours break followed by the Midwest Leather Dinner.
After dinner it was contest time! The evening started with a blessing from the Gateway Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. Both contests have an interesting feel being interlaced with each other. The categories on stage were alternated between contests which gives the contestants more time to prepare. MC duties were shared by Bruce Karmazin and Steve Neely. This year, Mr Midwest Leather had 2 contestants boy Jay from St Louis and Sir Ken from the Kansas City area. Midwest Puppy had 3 contestants with Pup Helmut from the Saint Louis area and Pup Sarge and Pup Scout both from the Chicago area.
There were 2 special awards giving out during the evening, the honorary Mr Midwest Leather award went to Karen Ultra and the Midwest Puppy/International Puppy Good Puppy award went to Pup Soul.
All the contests did very well on stage strutting their stuff. But in the end, the new titleholders are Mr Midwest Leather – Jay Johnson and Midwest Puppy – Pup Helmut. We look forward to seeing both of them working together in the community during their title year!
Sunday was the weekend wrap up with an awesome Victory Brunch at the Bad Dog with much coffee and bacon bloody mary’s and lots of tired faces!
Next Year’s Midwest Leather Weekend is October 2-4, 2015
