Michigan’s Largest LGBT Pride Festival and Parade This Weekend

DETROIT – Equality Michigan announces plans for the 43rd Motor City Pride Festival and Parade, the annual LGBT pride celebration being held June 7 and 8, 2014 in Hart Plaza, Detroit, Michigan. This year’s theme is Generations of Pride. Motor City Pride is celebrating the generations that make up our diverse community. We honor the pioneers of the movement that marched for “Gay Rights” after the Stonewall riots and for medical treatment at the start of the AIDS crises. We recognize others that have worked towards ending workplace and housing discrimination of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered, or HIV+ individuals. We also see great promise in today’s youth that will carry the torch forward to achieve full equality for all Michigan residents.

Highlights of the festival include:

  • A Parade on June 8, 2014. The parade has over 40 companies and nonprofit organizations that are stepping up to show their support for equality in the State of Michigan. The Parade steps off at 11:00 a.m. on Griswold at Fort Street.
  • Parade Grand Marshals will be the DeBoer-Rowse family.
  • A special Detroit unveiling of the Harvey Milk Stamp: On the Main Stage at 2:30 p.m. June 7, 2014.
  • An expanded Family Area that includes face painting, visits by Dr. Dinosaur, puppet shows and a petting zoo.
  • An Elder Pavilion that will provide seniors a place to find out more about services available to them along with place to relax during the festival.
  • Over 120 businesses and organizations will be exhibiting at the festival.
  • A Pre-parade media event presented by Chrysler Group LLC at 10:00 a.m., June 8, 2014 at Chrysler House.
  • Five stages of entertainment featuring over 100 local and national acts.

“The Motor City Pride Parade is an opportunity for individuals to come out and demonstrate their support for the LGBT communities,” said Dave Wait, Festival Chair. “This is a fun and friendly event hosted by a diverse crowd of activists who stand for equality in our state.”

Festival Hours are 2:00 to 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 7 and noon to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 8, 2014. Additional information can be found at: www.motorcitypride.org
