INDIANAPOLIS — Liam Matthews won the first Mr. Indiana Leather contest in 20 years this past weekend in Indianapolis.

Liam was one of four contestants at an event that packed Gregs in Indianapolis to capacity. It was the first time for the Mr. Indiana Leather contest since 1996. In recent years, Indiana has been represented by Mr. 501 Eagle at International Mr. Leather. With the closing of the 501 Eagle last October, there was a need for a contest to select a representative for the state.

The contestants were Pockets, Damien Phillips, Nicholas Leedy and Liam.  The contest honored Sir Jim Elison, Mr. Indiana Leather 1996 and last one to hold the title, as the head judge this year.

In addition to Sir Jim, the judge’s panel was comprised of Ms. Kendra, Executive Director of GLLA; Freddie Marshall, Mr. Chicago Leather 2008; Bootblack Megan, International Ms. Bootblack 2016; Joey McDonald, Executive Director for IML; Bootblack Marta, Great Lakes Bootblack 2014; and Russel “Giggles” Waisanen, Mr. Minneapolis Eagle 2016.

The weekend also included the meet and greet on Friday and Kink U classes by the Titans of the Midwest, all at Gregs. A victory brunch was held at English Ivy’s on Sunday morning.

Liam will represent the state at IML in Chicago on Memorial Day weekend.
