LGBTQ services come to West Michigan

HOLLAND, Mich. — Staff from Equality Michigan’s Department of Victim Services made a stop in Holland Oct. 30 ahead of Out on the Lakeshore‘s opening, local press reported.

From the Holland Sentinel:

The nonprofit organization was contacted by OOTL to offer services in Holland. It has held similar pop-up hours around Michigan, including in Detroit, Grand Rapids, Traverse City and Bay City.

The goal is to hold open office hours the second Monday of each month starting in 2018, said Serena Johnson, director of victim services.

The hours would be to provide advocacy, support and resources for the LGBT community in several areas, like legal processes or hate crimes, among other issues experienced by the community, Johnson said. Equality Michigan also offers training with staff at companies or the municipality.
