SAN FRANCISCO – Joe’s Barbershop, owned by IML 1996 Joe Gallagher and a San Fransico institution, was damaged by fire late Saturday night. Reports on Facebook said that no one was hurt. The shop’s website stated that the business will be closed for a couple of months as they rebuild.

Joe is also the founder of SF-based leather news site Leatherpage.com. The site, now edited by Leland Carina, reported that people who want to contribute to the rebuilding of the shop can give to the Joe’s Barbershop Fire Assistance Fund on WePay. As of Wednesday night, the fund was already 51% of the way to it’s $10,000 goal. Leatherpage suggested those wanting to help could donate the amount they would have paid if the shop hadn’t been closed by fire.

The barbershop opened in the Castro area of San Francisco in 2004 and was voted best barbershop by readers of SF Weekly in 2009.
