INDIANAPOLIS – This is the second year IYK will be celebrating 4th of July at the 501. This year we are excited about sponsoring the 501’s Fourth of July Cookout. The 501 provides easy access in and out of the downtown area, both before and after the fireworks. It is also a great atmosphere to relax and enjoy the day’s festivities. As in the past, the will cookout will take place in the parking lot across the street from the 501, which is the usual parking venue.This year there has been a change in regards to parking as we can no longer park in the Senior Center lot behind the building, as the Senior Center is no longer a tenant. UNFORTUNATELY, THE NEW OWNERS WILL TOW ANYONE PARKED IN THIS LOT. Although this lot is no longer available, there is plenty of parking on the side streets around the bar.
Festivities start at 5pm. The 501 is located at 501 N. College Ave.
The 501 will have a bar set up outside around 5 pm for those who want to purchase drinks. IYK will be sponsoring the cookout this year and selling plates of food for $5 – $6. In addition, some of the funds that we have raised throughout the year will also be used towards the cookout. We will have sandwiches available ala carte for less. The plates we will be selling will include choice of Hamburger, Hot Dog or Pulled Pork, along with potato salad and baked beans. Soft drinks and water will be available for a dollar. We will also have baked goods available for sale.
All proceeds will go back to IYK to help fund the members’ cookout at the end of summer and any other activities the group decides to pursue. Hopefully, we will raise enough money to look into co-hosting a large community play party in the near future with another Indianapolis based group.
Any members who would like to donate baked goods to the dessert table would be appreciated.
Please keep them simple as baked goods will be sold for one dollar. Any members who would like to help set up or serve food are welcome to do so and would be appreciated. Please message myself, WalterSobchak or Xoe if you have an interest in helping.
We are going to try and have a second tent available for seating. This area will be open to those with health problems or issues being in the sun on a first come first serve bases. We ask that if members bring lawn chairs or blankets for themselves and extra if you have any. Even though we are starting at 5pm the sun is still out, so remember sun block! If a member has an extra pop up tent or canopy we can use, please message one of us as this will be of great help. In addition, boom boxes that are battery operated are nice to have for music beforehand and to tune into the local radio station for the fire works once they start.
We ask that anyone who comes out please drink responsibly. Restrooms are available for those 21 and over inside the 501. If there is anyone underage in your group restroom facilities are a bit of a hike. Sorry if this causes any inconvenience.
This event is open to everyone including IYK members, other community group members, newcomers, friends, and anyone else wanting to attend! This is a great opportunity to come out and meet people in a relaxed holiday atmosphere, enjoy good food, gather with old friends, meet new friends, and enjoy our city’s great Fourth of July firework display!
