Indiana Leather Contest producer John Schmitt steps down

INDIANAPOLIS — John Schmitt, producer of the Indiana Leather Contest, announced today in a message to the Great Lakes Den that he was stepping down as the contest’s producer.

Here is John’s complete statement:

I have been honored to serve in this role as producer of the Indiana Leather Contests since 2009. It has given me the chance to be a part of so many wonderful journeys. I could go on for pages about each title holder and how much you mean to me. We are a family and I could not be prouder of each one of you and who you grew into. And of course I have learned so much from Ms. Kendra and could not have done it without the help of KISS and the rest of my leather family here.

However, it is time for me to let new blood come to the table. As with all wonderful things, new blood brought in will also bring new life and a new path. As difficult as this decision has been, it will bring new prescriptive to the Indiana contest. I am sure whoever takes on this mantle will do it justice.

As many of you know, the past couple of years have been very difficult personally and while I have been lucky to have the love and support of the Indiana Title family, the time has come for me to step aside from my role as producer to focus on my recovery and mental health issues. This change will also allow me to focus on Midwest Olympus Leather and my commitments there.

These years have meant so much to me and it has been my deepest pleasure to have served my community in this role. Thank you for allowing me the honor of giving my service to you all and know that I will not be far away and of course will do whatever I can if asked.

The Indiana Leather Contest is a feeder contest to the Great Lakes Leather Weekend contest held in Indianapolis each fall. We’ll continue to follow this story and let you know who will be taking over producing duties when the information becomes available.
