CHICAGO – The Leather Archives & Museum was host to the annual bloodletting that is the IML/IMBB Roast on Thursday, May 22. Thib Guicherd-Callin, Mr. Santa Clara County Leather 2012 and first runner-up for IML 2014, was the emcee and one of the roasters for IML 2013 Andy Cross of San Francisco and IMBB 2013 Oil Tan Sam of Portland. There was no mercy.
The other roasters included Brian Murdy of Mr. S Leather and regular photographer of Andy, Tobin Britton of Portland, Mr. Leatherman Toronto 2013 Robert Miller, IMsL 2013 Sahra and IMBB 2012 Nick Elliot of Portland.
To give an idea of how far the roasters were willing to go, Thib pointed out that IML was the only major convention event in the past year not to deal with controversy, pointing out IMsL’s financial scandal, the International LeatherSir’s debate on transgender inclusion and the recent blow up on CLAW’s gender inclusion. All the roasters dove in, including one comment from Nick who, when talking about Sam’s loss of his sash (later found behind a bookcase) suggested the previous owners of IMsL might find the lost money in the same place. No one was safe with even IML founder Chuck Renslow getting some indirect shots.
The festivities go into full motion today with the opening of the leather market and Opening Ceremonies and parties tonight at the host hotel.
