DETROIT, MI – This past weekend I was afforded the opportunity to cover Dark Side of Kink: Winters Night.
Dark Side of Kink was a full day event held at the Menjo’s Complex in Detroit Michigan. Menjo’s may be familiar with many of you, as they have been host to numerous Leather events over the years including the GLLA Michigan contest, a feeder to Great Lakes Leather Alliance.
Those who attended got a lot for their $25 at the door or $15 in advance entrance fee.
Dark Side of Kink featured an afternoon of classes presented by the Board of Education. Class topics included Anal Fisting, Impact Play, & Dungeon Etiquette. These were all 101-102 level classes, great for the beginner or for a refresher for those who are a bit more seasoned.
After a short break for setup those in attendance were treated with a Bottoms Buffet event. Featuring stations on such popular topics as fire play, electric play, floggers, paddles, canes, rope bondage, knife play, & plastic wrap bondage the Bottoms Buffet was enjoyed by all those in attendance.
The evening featured performances by Detroit House of Pain the self described “pervy performance art troupe”. Attendees were also treated to a singles mixer, 50/50 Charity Raffle, a professional photo booth, and a number of vendor boots where kinky items could be purchased.
Of course what would an all day kink event be without a play party. Deviations Detroit donated play equipment for the evening that provided numerous stations for play. The play space was a bit crowed however due to the tremendous turnout. Not necessarily a bad problem to have, especially for a newer event.
One of the things I most enjoyed about Dark Side of Kink was seeing the pansexual kink community and the Leather community comingle. That is not something that happens often in Michigan even though a number of event producers have been working to bring these communities together. I felt that Dark Side of Kink did a fantastic job of doing this.
I look forward to the opportunity to attend future Dark Side of Kink events and to see what it grows into.
