CHICAGO – The Chicago leather, bear and kink community marched together for the first time during the Chicago Gay Pride Parade on June 30.

Led by local leather bar Touché, every segment of the local kink community was represented on the parade entry with more than 40 people marching and riding in the truck rented by the bar. The group included straight people, gay men, lesbians, rubber, pups, bears and leather in a united front. The groups participating included pansexual dungeon LRA-Chicago, leather people of color club ONYX/Midwest, Chicago Puppy Patrol, Great Lakes Bears, Chicago Rubbermen, fisting group MAFIA, contest weekend Illinois Leather n Fetish Pride, women’s kink party Vespertine, adult toy store The Pleasure Chest, the Great Lakes Den, and the Chicago Leather Club.

The parade itself hit new records with local media reporting more than one million spectators gathered in Lakeview to watch the parade. For reference, the entire city of Chicago only holds 2.8 million people.

Daddy Sky, one of the founders of Vespertine, said this was the first time that the local leather community had marched together as a united group. Even though the group was near the tail end of the parade, the crowd cheered on the local kink community. Both marchers and the truck carried a variety of flags including the leather flag, pup flag, bear flag, Master/slave flag, rubber flag, the leathergirl flag and a Chicago leather flag. Marchers also carried banners made of hankies displaying the hanky code.
