Tending the Love: Managing Conflict in Relationships

(Class 1) 11:00 AM –12:30 PM
Things can and often do not go the way we plan them, especially in relationships. Handled badly, conflict can do real harm, both to you and the people you care about the most. It can lead to quarrels, mistrust, or even causing people to part ways. Handled well, however, conflict can be extraordinarily useful. If you have the skills needed, it can actually be your ally. It can help you identify and solve problems leading to the building of deeper and stronger relationships. This class is an introduction to different perspectives on conflict and strategies for resolving interpersonal conflict. Learn to assess your own response to conflict as well as skills to recognize, manage, redirect, and diffuse difficult situations so you can get things back on track and preserve relationships, with minimal damage.

Talking to be Heard: Communication for Problem Solving in Relationships

(Class 2) 1:00 PM – 2:30 PM
Learn to improve the quality of personal relationships one interaction at a time. Explore communication in conflict situations and learn techniques to assess your message so it can be offered in ways that are non-combative and better received by others. By examining the unmet needs behind what we do or say, this helps reduce hostility, heal pain, and strengthen relationships. You will learn tools to get to the heart of conflict quickly, transform criticism and blame into compassionate connection, hear the needs behind what people do or say, deepen emotional connections, and get what you want more often without using demands, guilt, or shame.

Work It Like You Own It: Personal Responsibility in a Troubling World

(Class 3) 3:00 PM – 4:30 PM
Life is full of choices and what you make of them determines your entire experience. Recognizing that the outcome of your life is a product of your decisions is what accepting personal responsibility is about. Explore thoughts and feelings about the authorship we have over ourselves and learn how to transcend conflict.
